TCEQ File Requests - Covid-19 Update

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted our ability to obtain environmental records and information from various government agencies. In response to the Governor’s declaration of a State of Disaster, many government offices, including the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Central File Room, are operating remotely and have been unable to fulfill information requests as quickly as we are used to on fast-paced deals. In order to reduce interactions and to protect everyone’s well-being, the

Doing Good Things in Tough Times

While doing a routine check of our office property in Plano, we came across an unexpected visitor behind our storage shed. A lost dog had wandered onto the Whitehead E. S. office property and was visibly very scared. Mikaela Brown, a new Whitehead E. S. employee, gave her some cheese and water to try to coax her out of her hiding spot, but she was unwilling.  Mikaela got close enough to catch a glimpse of

Subchapter T: To Permit or Not To Permit, That is the Question

Whitehead E. S. routinely works with buyers/sellers of commercial real estate on a full range of environmental concerns. In Dallas, this includes building structures on closed landfills. In many cases, the former landfill was an unknown that was identified or suspected in the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA). This is especially the case along IH-35 in Dallas moving north to Lewisville where much of the area was formerly used for sand and gravel mining. The former pits

Whitehead E. S. Pays It Forward!

As a graduate of Texas A&M University and Environmental Scientist at Whitehead E. S., giving back to my community is a privilege that I strive to accomplish on a regular basis. Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a judge for the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DRSEF) in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division.  I remember (in the not too distant past) attending many graduate student research competitions. I especially remember how

Whitehead E. S. has moved from our temporary location at 1612 J Avenue back to the “Big House” located at 906 E. 18th Street in Plano, Texas. The building is the former residence of W&M Environmental Group and is considered my “old stomping grounds”. I started Whitehead & Mueller (W&M) along with Dan Mueller back in October 1995. W&M later became W&M Environmental Group which, with the help of Gene Murray and Nic Andreani (and many others),

Local Texas Bank Whitehead E. S. conducted a Phase I ESA of this manufacturing plant in central Texas. The Phase II sampling identified petroleum hydrocarbons, arsenic, and lead in the soil. WES conducted off-Site sampling to develop site-specific background concentrations for selected metals that allowed for higher cleanup levels in the remediation of compacted

The site was; however, located in a small city that was not
